30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 7

My 5 Favourite Songs

DAY 7 is here. I am not being regular with this 30 day blog challenge. My day job is getting in the way but i am finishing it. Come rain, come sunshine. We doing this baby!

So today i will be talking about my five favourite songs!

I am a lover of music. Music is a universal language. It speaks literally to our soul. If you are feeling sad and wants to do away with the bad vibes, there is music to clear the “cobwebs”. Missing a loved one? There is a song that will make you feel close to said loved one.

There is music for virtually every mood, emotion, occasion and just about any situation.

The lyrics of the song i listen to matters to me a lot. This is one of the reasons i do not like rap and hardcore rap in anyway because most of the lyrics objectify women, disrespect and generally project females as lesser beings (and i also wonder why women would dance and sing along). What do i know though?

These days, i think there are really no good songs but just beats. The kind of music that creates value and makes deep sense are no longer being made. But again, what do i know lol.

Anyways, my 5 favourite songs/music are all old school so if you are not in your thirties, you very well may not relate lol. If you do relate, great! Either way, i hope you enjoy my day 7 post of the 30 day blog challenge.

Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing

This takes top spot. It is a song that i took to as a teenager but never really understood the meaning from the lyrics lol.

I grew up in the midst of groovy babes who loved music and for some reason i still cannot fathom, i took to this song by Marvin Gaye. When i grew older, i fully grasped the meaning and its been my favourite. No song has been able to take the number one slot. Not even the love i have for Sam Smith’s “Stay with me” and Adele’s “Hello”.

I am playing the song right about now as i write this! It is not so much the lyrics but what it connotes. Release from every tension. Not just sexual. That’s how i relate with the song.

Now on to a little history! Marvin Gaye has been called the number one purveyor of soul music! He was an American singer, songwriter and record producer who influenced the Motown sound in the 1960s.

He started singing in Church when he was just 4 years old! Sexual Healing which was written and recorded in his Olstead apartment (Belgium, during a hard phase in his life) and released September 30th, 1982 became his biggest career hit.

Sexual Healing won him, his first two Grammy awards and also an American Music Award.

Sadly, Marvin Gaye was shot fatally by his father on April 1st, 1984 at the age of 44, dying a day short of his 45th birthday. “Sigh”.

Bryan Adam’s Everything I Do, I Do It For You.

Bryan Adams rose to fame in Canada and the United States in 1983 with his 1983 album, “Cuts Like a Knife” and onto international stardom with his 1984 album which produced some of his best songs like “Summer of 69” and “Run Into You”.

Then in 1991, he released ‘Everything I do, I do it for you” from another album “Waking Up the Neighbors”. The song went on to become a worldwide hit on number 1 in many countries.

I remember everyone singing to the song when i was growing up and i absolutely love it. Till date.

Bryan Adams has been inducted into Hollywood Walk of fame, Canada’s Walk of fame, Canadian Broadcast hall of fame and Canadian Music Hall of Fame!

He is also an acclaimed photographer. He received an honorary fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in London for his work in photography. Talk about a man of many talents!

For those of you who know the lyrics of ” Everything i do, i do it for you”, there is a line that says “i’ll walk the wire for you…..”, well i don’t know about that lol but i love the way the song makes me feel!

And i absolutely adore Bryan Adams.

Here is an excerpt, go sing it for your partner!

“Look into my eyes
You will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart
Search your soul
And when you find me there, you’ll search no more
Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for
You know it’s true
Everything I do
I do it for you”

Michael Bolton’s When I Am Back On My Feet Again

Another of my favourite 5 songs would be Michael Bolton’s I am back on my feet again. If you have not heard this, please go download it and listen to it. Really listen to it. The lyrics i mean.

The song is not only empowering, it gives hope, courage and determination. Failure is part of success. You fail, you learn, then get back on your feet again. Failure is failure when you choose to give up.

When i am back on my feet again is 4th single from Michael Bolton’s album, Soul Provider (soul provider is another banger from Michael Bolton).

Michael Bolton

This is what the lyrics of this favourite song does for me. Each time i play it, it empowers me especially when i am down. The song talks about hope, getting up and starting up all over, like Cleaning Slate and Starting Over. Not ever giving up! Excerpts from the song…

“Gonna break these chains around me
Gonna learn to fly again
May be hard, may be hard, but I’ll do it
When I’m back on my feet again

Soon these tears will all be dryin’
Soon these eyes will see the sun
Might take time, might take time, but I’ll see it
When I’m back on my feet again
When I’m back on my feet again
I’ll walk proud down this street again
And they’ll all look at me again
And they’ll see that I’m strong…..”
I currently have all Michael Bolton’s albums. See why he is on the list of my 5 favourite songs?

Barry White’s I Love You “Just The Way You Are”

I just love me some soul! Barry White’s soulful ballads are worth shouting from the rooftops. Every day, all day, 24/7! Barry White is known for his distinctive bass baritone.

During the course of his career in the music industry, he achieved 106 gold albums worldwide of which 41 of them achieved platinum status!

I just got lost for a few minutes listening to him on my laptop. Had to pause writing for a bit!

All you babes trying to turn into something else trying to impress your beau, get in here! Read these lyrics..

“I never take anything for granted
Only a fool maybe takes things for granted
Just because it’s here today
It can be gone tomorrow
And that’s one thing that you
Never in your life ever have to worry about me
If I’ll ever change towards you because
Baby I love you
Yeah I love you
Just the way you are

Don’t go changing, trying to please me
You never let me down before
I don’t imagine you’re too familiar
And I don’t see you anymore
I would not leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times
I’ll take you just the way you are
Don’t go trying some new fashion
Don’t change the color of your hair
You always have my unspoken passion
Although I might not seem to care
I don’t want clever conversation
I don’t…”

If a man doesn’t tell you this, love doesn’t live in the house. The best gift a woman can give herself is knowing that SHE IS ENOUGH. Don’t go changing, trying to change the way you are. He should love you just the way you are. Flaws and all.

Thank you Barry White!

Elton John’s Candle In The Wind

Elton John is undeniably, a legend in the music industry and he has had a very successful career. Apart from “Candle in the wind”, i like “Nikita” and “Daniel”.

Candle In The Wind was dedicated to the late Marilyn Monroe and then to Princess Diana on her death by Elton John. It is a sad song but it makes me think about doing and being all we can in life because life is short and it is for the living.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed so we have to make each day count. Do little things, profound things that brings happiness and joy not only to our hearts and mind but also to our soul and those of others.

Leaving legacies behind that will be talked about and celebrated long after you are long gone like our own Princess Diana and Mother Theresa whose selflessness and gifts to humanity will continue to be celebrated.

It doesn’t matter though if you are not a celebrity or known in any way. Impact your life and the lives of others positively any way you can where ever you are.

“…….And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did”
Live every day as if it is your last as if it is your last before the candle is blown away.

First of all I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I have had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out. I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!|

I do love the way you have presented this specific challenge plus it really does offer me a lot of fodder for thought. However, from just what I have observed, I simply hope when other feedback stack on that individuals continue to be on point and in no way embark upon a soap box associated with the news of the day. All the same, thank you for this superb point and though I can not go along with this in totality, I respect your perspective.
